The Azteeg X5 mini arrived a day earlier than expected.  Hope to get it installed over the weekend.  Smoothieware apparently supports laser cutters, though I haven't done much research on it yet.

The Azteeg X5 is awesome. Have only gotten as far as booting it up, but looks very promising.

Do let me know how it works out. I might be going down the pic32 route sonce I have a few laying around and a friend who deals in pic based cartisian based platforms.

But this is a big might...

Will do!

Working on it now.  I took the X-Y assembly out to rewire motors, install drag chain and re-vent.  Dealing with a bit of mission creep now! So poorly put together.  The ground wire to mains input was basically attached by shrink tube...

Ran motion test on Smootheieware/Azteeg last night, looks good!  Smoothiewar config is such a step up from Arduino.

What about the lcd screen from the ramps? Does it work with the azteeg as well?

The RRD GLCD does (though SD slot doesn't work with Azteeg, but will with Smothieboard,) not sure about the 4x20.

Have it all installed and mostly working, my PSU does not like 3.3v logic.  Got the fire pin hooked up with a simple pullup, but intensity is still not getting set properly.  Tried making a simple level shifter with parts I had on hand, but that failed.  Gonna order up a level shifter and voltage translator from sparkfun to see if one of those will do the trick.

Smoothieware is pretty awesome though, and the folks on #smoothieware irc channel are very helpful.

Here is my first real cut using Smoothieware, it's based on Dan's panel.  Note the hotness of the vintage Westinghouse ammeter! (Disregard the meter placement, I fixed that but uploaded the wrong file to the SD card.)
