Hi - I am a new user of Opensong having used onsong since it first started.  I have opened the Onsong backup file in the App but cannot see any of the songs on the backup.

I am not sure if this is a FireOS limitation as I have also had issues importing pdf's as I see others have had.

Any Help appreciated.

Hi Gordon,

The backup file (*.osb) is actually just a zip file and should contain all of your songs as separate files inside it.  If you are comfortable with using file browsers, etc.  you can copy your backup file, rename the extension to .zip and then open it.  Your device should extract the contents into a folder that will let you see what is there.  If it is empty, that is obviously the issue!  If you aren't confident to check this, email me a copy of your .osb backup file and I can check.

PDF files shouldn't be an issue as long as the Android version is higher than KitKat (4.4). Most Fire tablets run Android 5 or above, so there shouldn't be an issue with that.

Can I check if you downloaded OpenSongApp from the Amazon App Store or Google Play Store?  By default Fire tablets don't have the Play Store, but it can be set up (there's a guide on my website: https://www.opensongapp.com/user-guide/devices-without-google-play)
On the Google Play Store version, there is an open beta channel you can sign up to which allows access to v6 of the app, which has many improvements over v5.6 that is available on the Amazon App Store.  You can also manually download and install v6 from my website (look on the Downloads page).  It may not solve your issues, but it certainly has many improvements on the way files are handled.  v6 will hopefully soon replace v5.6 on both the Google and Amazon stores.

Let me know about the backup file check first.

Hi Gareth. Thank you.
I have an onsong back-up file with a  *.backup format.  Can I import this?

I now have v6 beta loaded and running. Struggling a bit with transposing

Yes, that should work as well.  OnSong backup files are also zip files, but depending on the song format, there may not be separate song files in the backup (as they are stored in a database file instead).  PDF files should be in this backup file.

You can find out more about importing OnSong backups:

For transposing, this obviously won't work for PDF files, but for OpenSong formatted songs, you can use the page button, or the transpose option in the menus:

Most option screens will have a help icon at the top right that take you to the user guide page.

Hi Danny,

Can you email me a copy of your OnSong backup file incase there have been changes to the file format (and to check the backup file is ok).

Gareth
