Hi Gareth
Got myself in a bit of a pickle the other day trying to download songs from UG. Because I have done this so many times I admit I did not even notice a new switch "Request desktop site". Silly me!! Later, I noticed this was switched off.

So, I entered the search text, with website set to UltimateGuitar and clicked search. Up came a list of song matches in the UG site. So I selected the one I wanted, and when prompted, selected to continue (rather than use the UG App, which I don't have, or want), and when the song displayed and I scrolled down, clicked the download button.

Then I got the Filename and Folder prompt. The file name showed the song name plus some other text seemingly the search parameters. When I selected Save, I was quickly returned to the song screen with a popup stating "Success", but the displayed song was as before the attempted download. The new song was nowhere to be found in any of the App folders or song lists.

It was about the third or fourth attempt that I noticed the new switch to request the Desktop site, and having set this to the on position and proceeding with the search and download every thing was hunky dory and worked as expected. When I thought about this I do remember seeing a post about the desktop site and feel foolish for not seeing it at the first attempt.

However, I generally don't use any download sites other than UG so I do not know how these sites behave with the App; but I wonder if a warning would be useful to users selecting the UG Website and having the Desktop switch turned off? I suggest this because I was initially floored when my downloads didn't happen as expected, even though I had a displayed message that the download was a "Success".

It may be easier for the App to automatically set the switch to on if a user selects UG as the Website.

Just a suggestion. Sorry the post is so long.
All the best
Mark

Hi Mark,

Can you remember which song you were trying to download?
Both desktop and non-desktop versions of OpenSongApp should work (and have on my device), but enabling desktop mode avoids the prompt for using the UG app.  It could just be that the song you used (and others) have some extra complexity in their coding that I haven't accounted for yet.
If you're happy enough to click on continue (rather than use the UG app), you should normally find that the non-desktop mode is easier to read as it scales your mobile device better.

Best wishes,
Gareth

I have the same issue, even if I select desktop mode. I can no longer import songs

After I hit search I get what's below in the file name box. The song title plus garbage. This is an example trying to import Perfect

Perfect, 500 chords & tabs found search

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris
Have you tried closing the Opensongapp completely and shut it down from the background. Then try to restart, and make sure the "Request Desktop Site" switch on the Import Online page is set ON once you have set your search text, and then click the Search bar.
Once I had done this, the problems I had downloading from UG disappeared and everything was back to normal.

It looks like you are hitting the download button from the search results page rather than actually opening the song up first

I've added a catch to stop users trying to do this in the next version.  Having tested, that's exactly what you're doing wrong!

Rebooted my tablet, selected the "Request Desktop Site" switch on the Import Online page and it's working fine

Thanks for the replies and Thanks Gareth for the modification you just did!
