Hello Gareth

I have the Opensong App installed on an Amazon Fire 10 (7th Generation). Earlier this evening I installed the latest version (6.6.8), however when I tried to load the app it gets as far as indexing the songs and then closes down.

I have tried numerous times to start the app, as well as uninstalling and re-downloading it from the Amazon Appstore.

I have attached a copy of the crashlog. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Confirmed bug for older versions of Android (including many versions of Amazon tablets).  I've uploaded a fix now - hopefully live in a few hours v6.6.9

Thanks for alerting me to this and sending the crash log.

Gareth

Good Morning Gareth

Sorry to be a pain.

I have checked the Amazon Appstore this morning and the version of Opensong is still showing v6.6.8. Could you have a look at this when you have a minute?

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,
It is posted, but it's still showing as under review.  This normally takes a few hours, but sometimes up to a day or so.  The app file (.APK) is on my downloads page that you can manually install of you are needing it urgently.
Or weeks live on the Google play store very quickly.  Usually Amazon is quicker though!

Hello Gareth

No problem. I'll keep a eye out on the App store during the week.

Thanks for checking.

I've not had an email from them, but checking the developer portal this morning suggests that it's live now.

Good Morning Gareth

Thank you

I can confirm that the new version (6.6.9) is live on the Amazon Appstore. I have downloaded it and everything is now working as it should.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards

Graham

Hi Gareth

I noticed this same problem a week ago; when I attempted to use the app it fails to load.

As it had already been reported, I waited for updates. Today, after updating to 6.7.0 I'll still encountering the same problem where the app fails to load.

I'm using a Sony E6653 with Android 7.1.1

Let me know if there's any other information that would be helpful for me to provide.

All the best

David

Hi David,

Are you able to send the crashLog.txt file (you can find it at OpenSong/Settings/crashLog.txt)

Hi David,

Thanks for that.  I can see part of the crash, however, I suspect that the one recorded in the crashLog.txt is the second crash (the logged one is happening when the app tries to close - likely caused by a different crash).  I've got a fix ready for the final crash and have changed to crashLog.txt file to append additional crashes rather than just log the last one.  I'm pretty sure you will see a crash again, but at least now I can see any issues prior to the final exit of the app.  Are you on the beta channel?  I have pushed this fix to there and if you still get a crash on start up (I think you will), you could send me the new crash log file.  The new version is v6.7.1 and usually takes a few hours to go live.

You can join the beta channel by clicking on the following links:

Also,  you can still manually install older versions of the app (from the Downloads page on the website: https://www.opensongapp.com/downloads) if you need it up and running on a temporary basis.  You would need to go in the Google Play app, find OpenSongApp and from the settings button (3 dots at top right), untick the 'Enable automatic updates' option)

Thanks for your response, I understand what you're saying. I'm not on the beta channel, but it's no problem for me to wait until the new version hits the main app store for update.

For now I have a backup phone I can use, and the app's not crashing on it, so I have a temporary solution with that. I do appreciate you making the older versions available, and if I didn't have a backup device I'd definitely be using an older version in the mean time.

I'll post a new crash log once I've been able to update and test again.

I've updated to 6.7.3 and everything seems to be working fine, no crashes so far. I'll let you know if the problem returns.

Thanks

David
