Hi Gareth,

  • I have been looking for a way to transfer a song set to another device in 'connect device' mode. Is there such a thing? If not, is it possible? Also, if it can be done, can a profile be transferred to another device also?

Currently I upload to cloud based storage and regular team members sync their device and all is good. Lately however, I have been doing more and more music with other teams and have been introducing the app to them with great success. We have been emailing an OpenSongApp backup to people and they have been downloading it and I talk them through setup etc. But, quite a few (mostly older) folk don't have email set up on the device that they have. Being able to send these other files like a song set or a profile in connect device mode would be great in that situation.

I have also utilised the web server feature. It is awesome.

  • Is there a way to have chords showing on my device but NOT showing on a connected display? I am in this situation a bit where there is no one who can operate a dedicated tablet for a projector etc. An example is a Nursing Home. The elderly people get confused seeing the chords up on the screen. If there already is a way of doing this then I apologise for asking. I have searched for info but have not been successful so far.
Thanks Gareth. All your work is greatly appreciated,

Sincerely,

John McAllan

Yes and no!  You should be able to share songs and sets by using the export option from the Song Actions/Manage your set option pages.  When it asks how to share the file, rather than picking email, you can use NFC if you have that enabled on your device.  Nearby users (also need NFC enabled devices) can receive that file and then import it into their app.  If you use the OpenSongApp versions (.ost and .osts) the app will recognise them and try to import them when they click on them.  Profiles don't have an export option yet so you can't use that method for them.

I am planning on implementing a 'download current set' and 'download songs' option for Nearby devices (this is pretty much what happens in the WebServer version without the host actually installing those files), but haven't got round to this yet.  I will get this done soon hopefully though.  I will also add sharing profiles to that option when I get it working.  I have to figure out how to initiate it (client or host) and figure out who should give permissions etc.

I'm assuming you mean when casting / screen mirroring (not using Nearby connections or webserver)?
If so, then yes.  One of the app modes is specifically designed for that - Stage Mode.  You do have to manually click on each section on your device to change the display (you can use a prev/next foot pedal too).  If you'd rather stick with Performance mode and just show everything, then that's possible too.  The setting you need to change can be found at Display > Connected Display > Show chords.

Hi John,
I'm storing the whole OpenSong folder, in which all the song files, settings, sets etc. are stored, in my Dropbox (see Dropbox.com) and have that syncronized automatically by the free Android app Dropsync to all my Android tabs and phones in which I use the OpenSongApp. In that OpenSong folder I also save my Profile settings so that I can load these in each app. It may also be possible to use Google Drive vor the same purposes. I haven't tried that. You'll find instructions to set this app at:   https://www.opensongapp.com/user-manual/storage/synchronise-storage
Regards
Juergen

Hey Gareth,

Thanks for the answers mate. I'll give the NFC process a go. I seem to have a disproportionate number of Ludites in the circles that I am involved in... :)

Greatly appreciate your hard work and attention to our concerns,

Sincerely,

John McAllan
