Yes!

You have two options to do this:
  1. Preferred keys
  2. Manually force sharps/flats
If you prefer the key C# rather than Db (quite common for guitarists), you set the preferred key in the Chord Settings page.  Setting the preferred key as Db, means that if you transpose a song into this key, all chords will show as the flat chords.  Setting it to C# will make all chords show as the sharp format.  Remember that this isn't a setting for individual chords, but the chords in a certain key.  You obviously need to set the key of the song in the song edit window for this to work.  This is the best option.

If you simply want to change a song 'on the fly' to show sharp/flat chords, use the buttons at the bottom of the transpose window.  If you have set the key of the song, you will see the current key and the transpose key (which follows the settings chosen above).  If you only see + or - numbers, you haven't told the app what key your song is in.  Transposing up in this case will always use sharp chords and transposing down will always use flat chords:

Ok great thank you! now you say in option 1  (You obviously need to set the key of the song in the song edit window for this to work).

Where is that key of song set at which screen are you referring to?

On the song edit window under the song features tab.  By default, double tapping the screen (one of the custom gestures) opens the edit song window.  You can also get there from the song actions menus.

Enjoy your vacation! When you get back, I have a question about pulling songs off of Guitar Tab. It used to just pull the lyrics and tabs straight over. Now I'm getting some kind of code. I have the latest version of the app also. Here is a picture also if that helps. Thanks for your help.

Hi Danny,

Is this happening with every search on UG?  I've tried searching for this song on my device and tried downloading it - it seems to work fine on my end.  If this happens on every search, please send me more details about your device (make, model, version of Android).

Yeah, it does it with every song. I have Samsung tab A7, Lenovo tab M11, and a Samsung Galaxy S24e phone. It's only happening on my Samsung Tab A7. It must be some setting. It just started having that problem a week ago.

On the Samsung tab A7, have you tried the request desktop site option switched on and off?  When on, the app pretends to be a desktop browser (avoids the UG guitar app popup) and should also force all devices to see the same website code making it generic to extract the song properly.

Also, can you check you have updated the 'Android system webview' from the Google play store - what the app uses to show the contents of a website in the app.

Turning off the desk top option helped. I can pull it off of the web page, but it won't let me pull it straight out of the guitar tabs app. I wanted to transpose the song into the key of G. It only allows me to do that in the app, is there a way to transpose the song in the opensong app instead? Thank you.

Yes, of course!  When you extract a song from UG, you can then transpose it (and edit it) as you wish in the app.  Songs that are well defined in UG should have the key already set.

I've recorded a video showing the process - the key of the song wasn't extracted, so I've shown how to edit the song to include this in the OpenSongApp version of the song and also showed how to add the transpose button to your page buttons (it should be one of the page buttons by default, but just in case, you don't have it set already).
If you don't set the song key in the song edit window, the transpose slider only shows +/-0,1,2,3. etc. rather than the actual key changes as shown in my video.

Hopefully this helps

I'll also look into why the key set in UG isn't being included when importing (it used to!).

Regarding the song that shows the code (this is the UG webpage code), can you still save it as a song and then share that song with me please?  I'll try to see if I can trim out the code you are seeing.  You can simply attach the file to an email.

That video helped! Thanks for taking the time to make it. Let me see if I can save the song. The code only shows up like that when I try to save it from the GuitarApp.

Sound good I will ty some of those methods you mentioned.

One other question today what is the best way to update the app when you send out latest version?

If you have installed the app from the Google Play Store, go the app page on the store, click on the 3 dots at the top and make sure that auto update is enabled.
