Hi
my OpenSong App was updated automatically to Version 6.1.
I didn't see this update coming and it surprised me on stage.
After 20 Minutes of killing the hanging app it comes up.
Completely new look and feel, but also slower as the 5.6 version. (Lenovo Tab A)

Anyway, design of app looks good, I will need some time to find everything..

..but what I am missing: the page buttons. I checked in settings: page buttons are activated, also I changed visibility in theme. But they were not shown at all. It's equal what I try to configure. No page buttons at the right side.
I used them as shortcuts to Metronome, Autoscroll, Descriptions etc.

Is there a trick to activate page buttons in a way that I can see and use them?

Kind Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

V6 has been coming for almost a year and the website and forum has been focused on that for a while.
Firstly, if you prefer v5.6.0 that is available from my website as a download, but you will need to switch off automatic Google Play Store updates if you don't want it to change.  V6 .0.0 rolled out to all devices at the end of January, so has been there for a while.

I'm surprised that it is slower for you as it has numerous updates to make the app run faster and more efficiently.  With that said, the full file indexing, can be slower on some devices (which is why there is a option to skip or use the fast method).  Unfortunately this is due to Android file permission changes and how developers can access and in my case index your song directory.  V5.6.0 used an older method that I can now no longer update - that is why I haven't updated v.5.6.0 for well over a year now.

The page button should be active by default.  But in v6 it defaults to one master page button.  Pressing this button exposes up to 8 fully customisable page buttons.  To edit the actions of these, you can use the settings menu 'Controls > Page buttons' or long press on the master page button.  There isn't an option to remove it completely, but you can make it autohide and reduce it's transparency:

If no master page button is visible, it might be worth clearing the app cache (this doesn't get cleared on update).  This will clear your settings (preferred fonts, scaling, theme colourse, etc.) but won't clear your songs or sets.  I would suggest saving your current profile from the app settings 'Profile > Save'.  If clearing the app cache solves the issue, you can try loading your profile back in.  If this breaks again, you may have to create a new profile.

Remember that almost every page has an internet/online help link that takes you directly to the relevant page in the user guide.  Also when opening certain features, the app will show you some important information in a spotlight window about how to use the new features.  Don't skip these if you are new to v6 - there are some differences from v5.6.0.  Clearing your app cache will reset these spotlights messages, so you will see them again when you restart the app.

Hopefully this helps,

Let me know how you get on.
Gareth
