Hello Gareth

Version 6.8.2 was updated on my Amazon Fire 10 last night. However when I try to start it I see a white screen and the app shuts down.

I have attached the crashlog file.

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thank you for submitting the CrashLog.  I can see that this is a mismatch between a recently updated version of Android's material components that now requires Android 23 or later (you are running 22 and I am trying to support down to version 21).  I'll downgrade this tonight and put some protection code in to stop crashes in future when I'm forced to update.

When you get the update, can you confirm that it is working again please.

Hello Gareth

Thanks for dealing with this for me.

As I am running the app happily on a device that is nearly nine years old, there will come a point where it is no longer viable for you to continue supporting the OS running on it.

Is there a way that I can prevent it from automatically updating each time there is a new version? That way I would be able to continue to use the app on my current device when future updates require a newer OS.

Thanks

Graham

On Google Play, there is an option not to update certain apps, but not 100% sure about the Amazon store.  I am losing the battle in supporting Android KitKat 4.4 and probably going to be forced out of this within the year.  There are so many security updates and other changes that get harder to deal with on older devices.  I can't when test on Android 5.1 properly now.   I'll do what I can though and keep older version available on my website.

Good Morning Gareth

Sorry to pester, but have you had a chance to post an update on the Amazon app store?

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,
I actually uploaded this this morning (7am UK time).  I usually get an email saying it has gone live, but haven't seen that yet.  It is usually pretty quick

Correction - it went live at 8.42 am UK time today, so it should be there now

Hello Gareth

Thanks

I have downloaded the new version, and it's working perfectly.

I have also discovered how to stop my device automatically downloading new version of an app. It's available via

Settings -> Apps and Games -> Amazon Application Settings -> App store

In here is an option to enable/disable Automatic Updates.

Once again many thanks for your help

Regards

Graham
