Gareth and/or anyone else who may know...

Was there an update that caused this problem on my Android tablet???

I have edited songs hundreds of times on my tablet in OpenSong app using the clipboard; i.e.; cut, copy and paste. However, suddenly, out of the blue, I can't select any text and the clipboard does not display at all in OpenSong app... although the clipboard continues to work properly with all other apps on my tablet. This problem occurred at the same time that the OpenSong app display "theme" inexplicably changed on its own from dark to light. So I have to wonder if there was an update that caused the clipboard problem. I tried everything I could, including uninstalling and reinstalling OpenSong app, but to no avail... and the latest software is installed on my tablet.

Thank you much in advance.

This is a small change to the select function.  For now,  use double tap on a word to activate select.

The long press method will return shortly I was told.

James... thank you much for a reply and that information.

Unfortunately, a double tap doesn't work for me, either, so I'm stuck in limbo.

James... I just realized that with the "double tap" clipboard method, a menu pops up which includes "Select All". So I clicked on that, which selected the entire song text, and was then able to use the little two clipboard edit tabs to narrow it down to the text that I wanted to edit. It's a workaround that I can live with until there's an update fix. Thanks again, James!

Hi Michael,

As James has said this should be fixed in v6.5.7.  FireOS devices (Amazon tablets) were having issues with the on screen keyboard not showing up when using text boxes.  I put the long press action as a temporary workaround in v6.5.6 to force this, but in doing so broke the normal long press to select method. I reverted the behaviour in v6.5.7

Regarding the theme change, this was unrelated.  The two biggest criticisms I get in the app reviews on the Play Store is the complexity of the app (not simple to use) and that it looks like an old MS Dos program - mostly due to the dark text based menus, etc.

Personally, I like dark themed apps and thats how the app menus always appeared (regardless of the song display theme dark/light/custom1/custom2).  The app always defaulted to the dark theme when booting up.  If a user had manually changed chosen a theme (i.e. not relying on my default), the theme updates I made would follow this theme.  If you had only ever used my default start up theme (i.e. never tried to change it), the recent update would default to your device settings on first boot (viewing apps in light or dark mode - sometimes called day/night).  Most users leave their devices in day/light mode, so I decided to make the app default follow the device settings on first boot.  The app then stores this as your default.  I think this is what has happened in your case - your device is set to day/light mode and you have always just left the app running in my default dark mode - the update assumed you likely prefer a light theme.

Best wishes,
Gareth

Gareth...

Thanks much for explaining the "dark/light theme" default change and for verification of the "long press" temporary workaround!

Another problem I have, though, is that the TRANSPOSE function isn't working. Is a fix coming for that, as well?  Thanks again!

Hi Michael,

Can you give me more detail on what part of the transpose is not working?  The only minor issue I have seen is that if you are viewing a song, then add it to the set by clicking the tick box in the song menu, the transpose doesn't work first time (as the app hasn't actually loaded the set version before transposing).  I've now got a fix ready for that in the next release too.  As far as I can tell, the transpose button seems to work every other time - was this the issue you had, or is it elsewhere?  Does anyone else have any issues with transpose?

Hello again, Gareth...

I found a solution to my Transpose issue. In the Transpose menu page, I saw the "Transpose in set only" slider button was in the "on" position, so I turned it off. OpenSong app then successfully transposed my songs... so I'm happy! :- )

That said, I take it that in your upcoming fix, the "Transpose in set only" function will work in the "on"" position.

Thanks very much, Gareth, for all you do with OpenSong app! :- )
