I was using Android 8.1.0 but it no longer connects as host or client. Android has discontinued support for that version. Thank you all in advance

Hi Bob,

Just checking that the device can connect as host/client but the problem is that it doesn't change songs?

If so, could you try the following to capture a full bug report:

To figure out why your tablet isn't reacting to the song change command, I need to look at the system diagnostic logs from your device. Android has a hidden feature that creates this report for us without needing a computer.
Please follow these steps on your 8.1.0 Android device:
Step 1: Enable Developer Options
Open the Settings app on your device.
Scroll down and tap System, then tap About phone (or About tablet).
Scroll to the very bottom to find Build number.
Tap Build number 7 times in a row. You will see a small pop-up saying, "You are now a developer!"
Step 2: Trigger the Bug
Open OpenSongApp.
Perform the steps to connect and send the song change command from the other device so the failure happens.
Step 3: Take and Send the Bug Report
Immediately go back to Settings > System > Developer options.
Right near the top, tap Take bug report.
Choose Interactive report and tap Report.
You will see a notification saying "Bug report is being captured..." (this takes 1–2 minutes to finish).
Once it completes, tap the "Bug report captured" notification.
Select Share, choose your email app, and send the file (it will attach as a .zip file) back to me!

Gareth.

PS I would be interested if others are having similar issues to also see any bug reports

AI helped generate the instructions and has helped me analyse the log!  It has come up with some sensible suggestions which I've implemented.
I will push to the beta channel tonight since it works on my devices it shouldn't break anything else!

Something to do with the play service update?

The logs were showing that the connection was initiated on both devices, but that the 8.1.0 device never finished the 'handshake' to confirm the connection.  This meant it wouldn't act on any messages sent to it.  This could be linked to Google Play Services being less compatible with Android 8.1.0, there are ways around it to avoid the missed handshake communication (you probably had the message popping up confirming the connection on both devices, but the other device accepting this wasn't being received properly by the 8.1.0 device).
If you only have one 'host' device, you will also get a boost in performance using STAR mode rather than CLUSTER.  Obviously this is only worth it if we can get the connection fully established first though!
The update should make sure that the handshake messages don't get lost, or overwritten by other traffic (what I think was happening).  Can you test and let me know?

Hi Bob,

Did you manage to test the new 'Force keep bluetooth connection' method in the advanced options of Connect devices?
