Hello,
Can you add a shortcut function to the stage mode to turn off the screen on Chromecast? It could also be a dark background, dim, or logo function. I would like to create a shortcut for this. Unfortunately, there is no such option in shortcuts for Chromecast.

Best regards

Hi Michał,

Good idea.  I've added this feature for the next release.  You can choose these controls as page buttons, screen gestures, hotzones, foot pedal controls, etc.  Options are show/hide the logo, black screen or blank screen (uses current page background colour for Performance more or presentation background colour for Stage mode).

I've shown the output using the controls as page buttons in the screenshots below

Normal output:
controls_none.png

Clicking on the logo (show/hide toggle)
controls_logo.png

Clicking on the blank screen (show/hide toggle)
controls_blank.png

Clicking on the black screen (show/hide toggle)
controls_black.png

Hopefully this is what you're looking for and it will work in both Performance and Stage Mode!  Expect this in v6.4.3.

Gareth

I'm trying to backup all my songs. When I go in and try to export the songs. It says "Files are being processed: Error" the file name is OpenSongBackup_2025_03_06.osb. How do I fix this? Thank you.

Does this happen if you don't select the include highlighter notes and persistent database?
For the next update, I'll put in error logging for this feature to try to help me figure out what is actually happening - I cannot seem to get this to happen on my device.  For the next release OpenSong/Settings/crashLog.txt will have the exact code causing the error logged to it that you can share with me.

The error message will be showing if the app encounters a problem when either.
  • Creating the backup zip file (empty) to start with
  • Copying a single song into the zip file
  • Copying the NonOpenSongSongs.db database file (for PDF/image based songs) into the zip file
  • Copying the Highlighter notes (if any) into the zip file
  • Starting the chooser window to let you select how to share the backup file
Can you run the process and keeping the app on the same export page (swipe the app to the background) and see if the backup file is still created in the OpenSong/Backups folder.  It is actually a zip file (you can rename .osb to .zip) and you can extract the contents to see what has been backed up.

I tried using .Zip and it still came up with the error message. I turned off persistent data base and include liner notes and it still came up files are being processed: error

Make sure you are on the latest version (v6.4.3 - on beta just now, but should be on the stable channel tonight), them run the process again.  If you see the error message, send me a copy of OpenSong/Settings/crashLog.txt. This should give me a clue as to what part of the process is causing the error

It didn't show the an app update in the play store. I un-installed the app and re-installed it. It still wasn't the most current version that you listed. I just lost all 300 songs I had saved with no way to back them up. I will have to start from scratch now unfortunately.

Uninstalling does not delete your songs.  They will still be in the OpenSong/Songs folder.  The whole point of the annoying 'choose your storage location' means that uninstalls doesn't delete songs.

I suspect you have changed to a different storage location

I can see all the songs in the index, but it says error when I try to upload them. I'll just have re-upload all the songs individually.

No, make sure you run a full index when you start the app.  You don't need to reupload if they are already there.  If they show an error it means the indexing has been stopped before it completed.

It's not working. I'm just going to load them all up from the ultimate guitar. It's the only thing that is working. I've been through all the storage. It feels like it was so much easier before all the updates. I've been fighting with this program for a year now.

If you really want to go back to v5.6.0, you can, but it is unsupported.  Instructions on my website

I just would like to be able to save all the songs and then be able to import them again. It used to be pretty simple I thought.

Fighting with a program for a year is not good for anyone.  If the app doesn't work for you and you are starting again, you could try another app that works better?  No hard feelings

This app is way better than the other apps, I've just had issues anytime I've had to move my songs onto another tablet or try to save them. Once I get all the songs uploaded it works pretty well. The other thing I've noticed since the updates is the app crashed in the middle of the song at least 2 or 3 times in my 3 hour set. I'm not trying to be a dick. I just tour constantly and it can be stressful when the app is being finicky.

The process hasn't changed much (even since v5.6.0) and should be straightforward.  I've just recorded a video of the process (how it should work) on my device.

Device A:

Device B:
Restoring that backup file (device starts with no songs) - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kbHIht3xRPXQEy7Lou2l0QNXcB1gtv1j/view?usp=sharing

I appreciate it. I'll try it out later and see how it goes. Thank you for the video.

I know you aren't being awkward - I genuinely don't want people to be frustrated with the app and will try my best to help!  If the app ever crashes on you, the app will create a file (OpenSong/Settings/crashLog.txt) that identifies the code causing the crash.  Send that file to me and I'll put a fix in for the next release.

Let me know how you get on.  I'm still convinced your original songs are still there.

Have you also considered synchronising storage between devices?  I use DriveSync.  My OpenSong root folder (which contains OpenSong/Songs, OpenSong/Sets, etc.) is stored on Google Drive and I use DriveSync to keep the devices in sync.  I can edit on one device and the other device gets the updated songs/sets.  I just need to remember to run the full index on the device that gets updated.  You can find out more at: https://www.opensongapp.com/user-manual/storage/synchronise-storage#h.obw12wx1aa6y

This method also reduces the need to constantly create/restore backups.

I was able to import most the songs. I just had to do it in sections. Is that normal? I feel like I used to be able to upload everything all at once.

Gareth Evans

No, that isn't normal.  They should all be able to be imported at once.  The import logic hasn't changed from the old version of the app to the new one other than including the option for the persistent database (which keeps any extra song information for PDF files since they can't be edited).

Do you have one backup file with all songs and folders that isn't working?  If so, share it with me and I'll test it out.  I'm assuming you also have several smaller backup files with separate song subfolders that are working if you've managed to do it in stages?

The songs should all be on this one file, it would only let me allow me to import 30 songs at a time.

I was able to download the latest version of the app last night and It let me backup the files.

This is the file. I was able to upload it onto one of my tablets and I'm trying to get it to work on my phone. Maybe it's a bad file, see if it works for you. Thanks for your help.
