Are there any instructions regarding Guitar Tab? I tried to import a few from UG but found that they don't import correctly unless you go into Edit and insert a full stop and string name at the begining of each line (I imagine it works OK with just a full stop).

Assuming that you have to manually edit the tab as above can you recommend a font to display the tab with but which won't interfere with the tab used to display text please. The fonts for displaying text are using proportional spacing which looks great, however, if a P.S. font is used for tab then the lines are all different lengths so a mono spaced (?) font would need to be used.

This isn't urgent (at least not for me as I'm really a pianist who dabbles in guitar) but I would like to put some tabs onto OpenSong.

Thanks for your help,

Charlie Simpson

Finding I had a little time I played with the fonts and found that if I set the chord font to Droid Mono then the line lengths are OK and song words and chords look fine (I use the defaults).

Hi Charlie,

I am in the process of updating the help pages on the opensongapp.com website.  If you check out the following page, it will help you add guitar tab.

Adding tab this way, the app detects the lines as tab and changes their font to mono, leaving the rest of the song as is.

The tabs don't always import correctly from UG (as people use different formats for the start of their tab lines), but I will improve this over time,  For now, you will likely have to manually adjust the tab as shown in the help page above.

Gareth.

Hi Gareth

I had a look as this again as I was trying to line up chords between "bar lines" to illustrate the timing. Usually in Intros or other instrumentals. Did not want to use the TAB approach at it will not transpose (as far as I know).

I set the chord font to "Oxygen Mono", as it looks similar to the Lato font. But as the mono fonts seem to be slightly wider, the method of layout pushes the lyrics apart using gaps to try align the chords. In some cases making it hard to read. It is not neat. (If someone had found a different mono font that works well let me know).

However, if I use the "Scale Chords" option and change that from 100% to 75%, the layout returns to a more normal appearance. Slightly smaller Chords, but it looks reasonably good and closely achieves the purpose of alignment.

If you have any suggestions that would be great. Otherwise, this might help others.

FYI the updated link to the User Guide is https://www.opensongapp.com/user-guide/songs/using-guitar-tab
