Issue:

I tried to use the OpenSongApp to display PDF-sheet music and at loading it should send a Midi ProgramChange message to the Yamaha Modx M Synthesizer.

I connect 2 synthesizer, for that I use the Midi Router CME H12 midi pro. Plug each synthesizer with its USB Midi cable to the USB-Host ports of the H12 and the Android 14 tablet to the USB client port.

When I go to the app / Midi / Connect devices / search it immediately finds the H12 Midi-router.

But when I click on it the app crashes every time.

Experience:

After some tries in the USB-settings of the tablet (data / midi), I tried it with another app Mobile sheets free. There I get also a dialogue that offers the H12, but there it accepts it when I select it.

After that, I was able with a general Midi setting: channel 1, MSB 66, LSB 0 ProgramChange 1, 2, 3, to toggle between performances in the synthesizer-keyboards, when sheets are loaded. That shows my cabling and other settings work in general.

I added the crashlog, it’s always the same, at app version 6.9.3 and 6.9.4.

Please let me know if you plan to fix this exception.

Thank you

Patrick

Can you send me the crash log file.  You can do this after opening OpenSongApp, go to Settings > About > App usage logs.  Click on the button to share this for and use email with my address.
Alternatively you can do this manually and you will find the file to share at OpenSong/Settings/crashLog.txt

Anytime the app crashes, it records the issue along with the specific lines of code causing the crash to this file.

I will certainly fix this if I can figure out what is causing this crash.

I am having the same issue when sending MIDI to Korg Kronos on changing a song. I am not using PDF, i use text-formatted songs.
Problem occured after last update.
Can you please add an info here, when it will work again, because actually i went back to 6.9.1 and disabled updates.
This works fine for me, but i would appreciate further updates.
thank you so much for your work. i love opensongapp!!!

Thank you so much for the crash log.  I have identified the bug in my code and have a fix in place ready for the next release (v6.9.6).  Because this is a minor update that only fixes this issue (no other changes), I will push to the Play Store shortly, so should be available later today.

I just tested it, and now after selecting the CME, it connects and crashes no more.
The verification button also returns ok. (But no idea what it verifies of the Midi connection)
After that the Program Changes go throught the CME H12 to the Modx M as they should.

Thanks for the fast fix, it was not so urgent for me, but good for each catched exception.

I maybe had some re-connection issues after closing the app or unpluggint the tablet, but I must test it out in detail, before I can report it.

Hi Patrick,

The test button and a few commands to connected devices (a program change and a few note on/offs) - you will likely see some indication of this of the midi device or hear something if it is plugged in.  The test purely checks that OpenSongApp is connected to a device and has access to the MIDI port and can send without error.  It can't check what the MIDI device receives.

If you close the app (or change apps and android puts it to sleep), you will lose the MIDI connection as part of the app clean up.

Do let me know if you spot any other bugs as being a sole developer I can't fully test every feature on every device, so I rely on users helping me identify any problems and crashes.

Best wishes,

Gareth
