Orkut's sandbox caches your gadget to improve latency. This is
undesirable during development, so to bypass caching on a given Orkut
page, please append &bpc=1 to the URL of the page itself:

For example:

Cached:
http://sandbox.orkut.com/Application.aspx?uid=x&appId=x

Not cached:
http://sandbox.orkut.com/Application.aspx?uid=x&appId=x&bpc=1

Please note that you do not append bpc=1 to the url of the gadget you
install.

I guess it will work,,,,,adding &bps=1 sure does enable the bypass
option.
Haven't tried my hand at it as yet.....

Yeah, but, when we deploy to production and the Spec XML is cached...
how long does this caching last, and will it expire? Can I manually
expire the cache for this? Because, lets say my app gets 500 users and
I find a bug or want to add a new feature and so I change the code.
How do I make sure that all my users are getting served latest app
spec?

Hi Barry,

The way the sandbox currently works is that the same cached
version is served to all users who are not specifying &bpc=1 in their
querystring. This is why you can put &bpc=1 on a URL, view the
updated version, and then remove &bpc=1 to see the older version
again. Currently, this cache expires after about an hour, so if you
make a change to your application spec, then your users should all be
viewing the updated spec after about an hour.

If expiring the cache is still something you would like to have,
then please add it to the feature requests page:
http://groups.google.com/group/opensocial/web/opensocial-feature-requests

Hope this helps,
~Arne

Arne, I think it makes sense to have this, so I will put in the
request.

FYI

My Use Case:
If I update my backend server to change an API call for my client js
app, for example, its possibly going hose the cached instances. At
deploy time, I want to make sure that the client spec and the server
are in sync. Of course, this is only an issue if I actually have
active users ;).

Hi Arne

I had installed my app from last month but every time when i click my
app from the left bar ..it will open always the page that i had on
first day..every time i have to add the bpc=1 in the url to run the
app..is the cache of the app not cleared after an hour
automatically ..if yes than why my app installed from so long time
doesn't appeared with changes yet.. is i always have to add bpc=1..in
url..or is there any alternatively permanent..so i can show my app to
someone ..and it will run properly.

Thanks
Simran

Hi Simran,

Can you please post a link to a profile page with the app on it so I
can take a closer look?

Hi Jeet,

I've taken a look and I'll be filing a bug to get this issue
resolved. It appears that when I load
http://sandbox.orkut.com/Application.aspx?appId=946071177235&uid=9909705199539874010,
I get nothing in the tabs (an earlier version of your gadget?), but
when I load http://sandbox.orkut.com/Application.aspx?appId=946071177235&uid=9909705199539874010&bpc=1,
then the application works (I get a family tree view, etc). Can you
give me an approximate time between these two versions (in terms of
hours/days/weeks)?

Thanks,
~Arne

Hi Arne

Thanks for checking my app,I not really give the exact estimate, but It is almost more than a month.I had added this app when sandbox is launched for public. You will estimate the second week when the sandbox is public.

Thanks
Jeet
