OpenSocial 3.0 Kickoff!!

Calling all OpenSocialites! Are you an OpenSocial Geek? Do you find yourself wearing black T-Shirts and thinking about @friends? If so, then you'll be totally stoked to know that the OpenSocial Foundation is formally kicking off the 3.0 specification release with a Face-to-Face meeting in Palo Alto!

As usual, the community has been brewing up a number of leading edge ideas and it's time to get them in the spec. Each member wishing proposing an idea will have 20-30 minutes (depending on the number of submissions) to present their what they would like to get into the specification. Proposals should be added to the 3.0 spec changes page on the wiki and are due by February 17, 2012. If you work on the spec, you should plan to attend.

OpenSocial is awesome, but I just want to learn more about what's going on!

So you don't dream in JSON. No big deal. With everything happening in the industry, it sometimes feels like we are all running downhill with scissors. Right after the working session, we're hosting a round table where we'll invite key technical leaders to host a discussion on relevent industry topics. The round table will run for 90 minutes from 4:00 - 5:30. We'll post topics and speakers as we get them lined up! (If you've got a suggestion, don't be shy, post it on the dev list and we'll get right on it!)

Note: There is a separate ticket for the Round Table if that's all you can attend. However, if you are attending the working session, you don't need to get two tickets, we're assuming you'll stay for both (and hopefully join us for the happy hour).

Hungry for more?

When it's all said and done, it will be time for some old fashioned social networking. We'll conclude the day's work with a happy hour reception immediately following the round table. We'll plan to have the dinner that every developer craves, beer and pizza.

I hope you will join me and the other community members in kicking off another great spec cycle. As a courtesy to your other community members I'd ask that you keep in mind that space is limited. It's totally uncool if you get a ticket and say you'll attend and then not show up. Depending on how many people we have, we may need to change venues. Don't worry... We'll make sure you know by updating this ticket, sending out an email, twitter, morse code, smoke signals, etc.

I'm looking forward to working with all of you and, hopefully, seeing as many of you as possible in Palo Alto!
