Evan,

I've noticed that there's been some activity lately on the W3C around a few of the topical areas that are of interest to OpenSocial. A few people have asked how these all relate to OpenSocial and what your role is as a member of the Board. Their concerns were around the notion that rather than bring the community together, having all of these distinct and separate conversations actually keep us fragmented and yield confusion, not clarity, in bringing the social web closer together. For example, the AtomPub group is working on an API for activity streams--something that OpenSocial already has. Further, we have an implementation based incubation model so that these kind of ideas can grow & mature within a broad community and be supported by real working code. It's for this reason that we decided to take a bit more time with 3.0. I think we've got a great track record with this model and things like activity streams, the common container work, are all the better for it. I've created a slot on the agenda for the next board meeting (Thus 3/29) for you to present these activities and provide a recommendation on how OpenSocial should engage.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
-Mark Weitzel
