Hi Everyone,

Navigation, capability discovery and more in the new version of the
OpenSocial JavaScript API. Check out the API Reference [1] for the
new version. We've also created a specification and overview page [2]
to help explain some of the nuances of the API. See this blog post
[3] for more details about this release.

There's also a new page here in the group to track OpenSocial
Priorities[4]--but we need your help to make sure this prioritization
is correct. Please let us know if there is something you're counting
on for a public launch that isn't listed as a priority 1 or 2.

Happy coding!

Lane

22 Gadgets Existing Gadget APIs Equivalent of IG_{Get,Set}Pref 4 A re-
implementation of the gadget preference (setter/getter) methods.

priority 4? we guys are stuck here due to the absurd behaviour of user
pref.. they can be used to set privacy settings which is very
important for gadgets like mine,
any word on public launch date? don't say first half of 2008 :P, also
is there any testing area like the orkut sandbox for Myspace?

you can't download the api, you have to use the JS functions by including    <Require feature="opensocial-0.5"/>
in the gadget xml file, the other way is through directly connecting to data feeds which is currently under works,,

Thanks

Hi Lane,

I just finished going through the entire OpenSocial API v0.6 specs. I
wish there is an interface for communities also. I found lots of
significant values for developing apps for the various communities.

Also is there tutorial or sample codes on developing OpenSocial apps
without using the Google Gadgets, ie. employing pure Javascripts and
using my own widgets.

And are you planning to have MySpace and LinkedIn discussion groups in
this forum also?

There are already some feature requests regarding Orkut communities.
Please add to the existing requests if you don't think they're
complete and we'll prioritize them into Orkut's roadmap.

I don't think I understand this question--could you please clarify?
What do you mean by pure JavaScript? What part of the gadgets API
would you like to avoid?

I'd like the discussion groups to be driven by demand from developers
in the group. Once there's a significant amount of discussion in this
group regarding a container (MySpace, LinkedIn, etc.) we can add a
forum specific to that container. Creation of a new sub-forum will
probably coincide with the container going live with a developer
sandbox (since there's not much to discuss without one).

Hi for all,
I have a question: In the new version of API (0.6) have a way to get a link for inside of application?

Ex: I have a site and want to link my application.
If the user have the app in Orkut, open a window and he interages with the application.
If he doesn´t have, open a window with a link for he add the app.

Kisses,
Cinthya

PS: Sorry for my bad English

Priority 3 "A standardized way to support viral growth of
application", i.e. a method of inviting friends to Add the app REALLY
ought to be implemented before public release. I hope it becomes
priority 1 or 2 soon.

What i meant was avoiding the Gadget Modules xml.

Perhaps i can just host the OpenSocial apps in my customized
container.

Hi Newton,

In order to be OpenSocial compliant, you need to parse the gadget
module spec. See http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/docs/spec-0.6.html#compliance
for more information. Depending on what you're trying to do, it
should be possible to create an adapter that wraps this into the
format you need, though.
