Templates are set to be slipstreamed into the 0.8 specification because their important enough to do so :)

Chris Bissell (& friends) from myspace have been working on a proposal to expand the templating specification to allow a more 'standard web development' usage of the templating system, which is looking really good.

His proposal to the list:
And he maintains a wiki with the details of the proposal at:

I'm hoping we can reach consensus on- and vote for this inside of the 0.8.1 time-frame, so we can introduce this together with the already existing templating specification.

I edited http://groups.google.com/group/opensocial-and-gadgets-spec/web/javascript-in-templates at some point to try and make sure that user-supplied javascript executed when a template is processed doesn't prevent optimization, and doesn't defeat the security properties of the template.

Are the "(PROPOSED...)" sections in that page something that needs to be discussed before it makes it into 0.8?  What's the appropriate forum for that?  I'm happy to start that discussion but I don't know who would likely be interested.
