Just a fun question to get things started, curious minds want to know!

What are you using Opensim for now?

What do you hope to be doing with it soon?

Personally, right now I'm using it as a standalone to mock up
environments and vehicles for concept art and maybe a fully finished
sim-build in the future.

I have a lot of hopes for Opensim in the future, and lots of (overly)
ambitious plans. Among them, I hope to build some functional showcase
mini grids and to use it as a platform for machinima!

Cheers,
-Alan

Hi

I am Decka Mah in Second Life and my carbon unit is Lindy McKeown. On
OpenSim grids you can find me as Decka or Lindy.

I am using OpenSim stand alone at the moment to get ready to deploy
OpenSim at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) in Australia
where I work remotely as the half time Project Officer- Collaboration
and Virtual Worlds. The intent is to find out if it will be better
suited to our needs for some purposes. USQ have been using Second Life
since 2006.

Prior to that I did some work with Xerox Research Labs using Second
Life and Appalachian State University using ActiveWorlds. I am
currently looking for a half time position in the US to fill the other
half of my weeks.

On the teaching and learning side of things, where my passion for all
this stuff lies, I am trying to document the teaching strategies and
roles for virtual worlds in education and use this information to
drive design decisions.

On the technical side, I am interested in working with our tech staff
to get the systems on campus to talk to each other including student
information system, the learning management system (Moodle) and
OpenSim to support the teaching and learning process.

Looking forward to meeting you all and learning together.
Season's Greetings
Lindy

Hi all,

I've been working for more than a year now as technical support in an
educational opensim pilot in the Nederlands, which focus is to link several
educational grids from schools/universities together through hypergrid.
Currently i'm focussed on developing a html5 webportal for
opensim(https://github.com/phrearch/hwios), which offers opensim admin
tools(remote service , region, IAR/OAR, profile management) and a realtime
distributed wiki(multi-user editing), using the adopted protocol. It's focus
is to make it easier for educators to control an opensim grid, through a
simple-to-use webinterface, and to make online collaboration with text-tools
more interesting and powerful. The project is now almost 1.5 years old, and is
starting to become useable(finally!).

The educational use of opensim interests me, because of the possibilities to
share information and experience within a ring of schools/universities.
Techniques like rdf and hypergrid could play an important role in making
information more accessible and more fun to interact with. I'm looking forward
to share information and experience within this group.

kind regards,

Jeroen

@Lindy and Jeroen: It's great to meet you, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll accomplish!

I should probably introduce my digital half (or halves?) as well.  In SL I'm Echelon Strauss, on OSGrid I lurk around as YetAnother Avatar, and pretty much everywhere else I'm Echelon Override.
