Hi all,

I've had a lab meeting scheduled for Monday so I won't be able to make the 2pm slot.

Could someone volunteer to coordinate the meeting?

The room is booked from 2-3pm.

Thanks,
Adam

Hi,

I'm haven't really been in a shape to coordinate meetings the past week, but I'll try and be there on Monday. My card should open the door.

Apologies for the lack of meetings this year, but it felt that there was not enough to fill the last few meetings, Volunteering does not to be a formal presentation. I am trying to put together some recent RNAseq results to get advice from you on possible next steps. Won't be ready for this meeting though,

Best,
Kevin

I think my DESeq issue might tie in nicely with Adam's RPKM vs TPM comparison. I'd be happy to leave it till the next session, particularly if I'm the only one presenting today.
Any opinions on that?

Sounds good to me!
Haven't heard from anyone but Adam and you Karsten so far about this meeting.

Cheers,
Kevin

Ok, let's postpone today then and get together when Adam is available. Three is better than two!

Hi all,

How are we set for a meeting on Monday (March 10th)?

Thanks,

Oh, gee, I forgot to send the email on Wednesday.

I'd be up for it! I've got a 5-minute presentation on a normalisation issue that I had meant to present ages ago. It's about a case where DESeq can produce very wrong values. Will be happy to show that unless we have enough other topics.
Another thing I'd be interested in is gathering a list of next-gen-related meetings/conferences that might be worth attending this year.

So the agenda can be:
  • Karsten: normalisation issue where DEseq can produce very wrong values
  • All: listing of NGS meetings
  • Kevin (me)I have a bunch of slides about my recent RNAseq results of bovine alveolar macrophages infected with either M. tuberculosis or M. bovis (or control uninfected). There's quality control, correlation of gene expression, and pathway analyses.
  • Anyone else?
See you all on Monday (Adam, Karsten, me, ..?)
Kevin

Hey,

I'll be there too. Could talk about (i) improving genome annotation using RNA-seq data and (ii) an alignment-free way to get from raw reads straight to count data using k-mers (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~ckingsf/software/sailfish/).

Best,
Markus

There's also a survey for an interesting redesigned version of sequencing logos at:

Hi all,

Reminder for the OpenSequencing meeting today at 2pm in the Conway Interactive Hub.

Karsten, myself, and Markus have prepared some topics to discuss.

Hi All,
Unfortunately I can't make it this week due to a clash with another meeting I have to attend.
Hope to catch up with you guys at the next one.

Sounds like it’ll be a really good meeting but I can’t make it this afternoon unfortunately.

There’s a meeting organised by a COST centre I’m involved in:

"Scientific Meeting 2014 "NGS Data after the Gold Rush" & Management Committee Meeting" 6-8 May 2014. Norwich, UK.

I haven’t looked at the schedule yet so can’t vouch for that but it’s in lovely Norwich!

Cheers,
Peadar

Hi Peadar,

I found a fairly long list of NGS conferences, but yours wasn't amongst it:

So thanks for that,

Hi,

This is a NGS meeting on the 24th of March here in UCD.  It's organised by the Centre for Food Safety lab here in UCD.  It's about Next-Generation Sequencing for Food Pathogen Traceability.  I'm going to it and I think that it looks interesting.  It's all about food safety and bacterial genomics so it wouldn't suit everybody, but it's free to attend.  I've attached the flyer anyway.

I'll see you all at 14:00.

Looks good! I'm going as well. Registration deadline is today if anyone is interested...
