Dear all,
The OpenSequencing group will meet again on Monday 2nd March at 14:00, in seminar room 1 of the Conway Institute. (topic below)
For those not familiar with the OpenSeq group (it has been on an extended break), it is intended as a place for interactive discussion of High-Throughput Sequencing, ongoing analyses, issues, and published work in this area. Topics can be suggested by anyone, and the frequency of meetings can be adapted to the demand. We (Lisa Rogers and Kevin Rue) aim minimally at monthly meetings, with the possibility to organise additional meetings whenever people offer topics/presentations (e.g. "I have been doing <that analysis> recently, I wonder where to go next" is a perfectly valid topic, with a few slides of preliminary results).
These meetings have proved very helpful in the past, for both presenters and attendees, with sharing of ideas, experience of bioinformatics tools, experimental design, and more. We welcome both experienced researchers and those newer to the field hoping to learn more.
We would particularly appreciate if this email could be forwarded to the appropriate mailing lists.
We look forward to seeing all those who are interested there!
--- Topic for March 2nd ---
Caitriona McEvoy, PhD research student in Prof. Catherine Godson’s group (Diabetes Complications Research Centre) in the Conway Institute will present ongoing work to seek advice as regards optimal methods of clustering.
Her research focuses on the factors which lead to the propagation of fibrosis in Chronic Kidney Disease, independent of the inciting renal insult. She has undertaken RNAseq of the renal biopsies of 47 individuals (3 controls, 44 cases).
