  Hi,

I want to see political donations by individuals working for S&P 500 companies. I have the Campaign Finance data for the 2018 cycle. I am working with individual files. I am trying to match the company name, but I am unsure which field to use -- employer or orgname.

Moreover, there seem to be quite a few typos in the names. For example, Colgate Palmolive has the following variations in the dataset:
colgate polmolive
colgate palmoluve
colsate palmolive

Is there a firm-level unique ID that I can use to avoid missing out on correct names due to spelling errors?

I will appreciate your help on this.

You have to use a string matching approach. Match based on a self-established probability that two strings are similar.
