Would be nice to have a simple OpenSearch logo that can work as a small icon also (ala "t" for twitter, "f" for facebook and so on).

The last time i choose the design for anything my wife ordered me to repaint the living room.

So, has anyone had a hack at logos/icons - or know anyone who does? Has this been discussed much in the past?

I'd be happy to put one together for you...what's the url of the site,
what dimensions do you want it?

I took a stab at it a while ago:

Not nearly good enough, and I don't particularly like the orange, but I like the notion of using the magnifying glass somehow.

I see, I created a fullsize logo. I can scale down if people like it.

That's not bad actually!

I liked the first one, then read the comments.

Still, when i saw it it said "syndication of search results" right away.

It's also far better than what we currently have ==>             (intentionally blank)

Thanks - think it really needs to be lightweight and in line with the feedly
style icons http://www.feedicons.com

I've tried other formats in the past and they never seem to go down well.

My take is that it should differentiate itself from blogs (which is
what I think of when I see the standard RSS icon).
The "feedish" nature is cool, but using something identical to blog
feed I think tells the user "it's just another blog" at first glance.

Another try from someone here (similar theme):

Not a real fan of that green. Perhaps a darker shade?

The icon that was posted earler with th radar on the sides of the magnifying glass I really liked. But it was Orange like RSS and that was too similar. In general the magnifying glass is synonymous with search. No need to try and re-invent the wheel here; go with what's familiar.
