Dear Open Science Framework members,

I'd like to share an important initiative that I think is very relevant to some members of this group. I am a researcher employed by the Global Young Academy to work on the Global State of Young Scientists (GloSYS) Africa project. The GloSYS project is a large mixed-methods research study, which investigates the context in which early-career scientists and scholars (with a master’s or PhD earned within the last ten years) in Africa and the diaspora work, and the challenges and motivations that shape their career trajectories. We are particularly interested in themes like mentoring, funding and infrastructure, mobility, and gender. We are collaborating with researchers on higher education and innovation throughout Africa, and are developing partnerships with national and regional stakeholders to ensure that our findings are used to affect policy that better supports young African scientists in their research efforts and career development. To learn more about our project, have a look at this video on YouTube.

You can contribute to this project by doing one or both of the following:

  1. Please complete our online survey, if you have completed a PhD or Masters in the last 10 years and either live in or are from Africa. Scientists and scholars in any discipline and any employment sector are eligible to participate. It should take about 20 min to complete.

  1. Please help us share the survey within your network by doing any of the following:

·      send a dissemination email to any relevant listserv you may have access to, or have a text about the GloSYS study included in a regular institutional mailing/newsletter

·      post a blurb about the GloSYS Survey using your social media accounts, and/or on your institutional website

·      forward this email to other organizations, institutions, or groups that may be relevant for this study. Alternatively, if you are able to provide me with contact information for such organizations, I would be happy to contact them myself.

We have prepared a dissemination toolkit, which contains suggested texts that could be used for the above, which you can access here.

We don’t yet have sufficient responses to our survey, so any help that you may be able to offer us in spreading this survey would be especially impactful.

Of course, if you have any questions about the project, please feel free to reach out to me!

With best regards from the GYA office,

Marie
