# of views/visits for PsyArXiv pre-prints

does anyone know where we can access the # of views/visits for PsyArXiv pre-prints, in addition to the # of downloads? 

i tried looking under "Analytics" for the corresponding OSF project page, but it doesn't seem to show such information and/or show it correctly, e.g., https://osf.io/afrzx/analytics/

Hi Etienne,

The number of downloads for each preprint are shown on the preprint view page (so for your example, here: https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/uwmr8/, on the right side of the page)

The number of file views on the analytics page you referenced are views of the file on your associated project. 

We're planning to add view counts to the preprint page as well (appearing alongside the download count), and anticipate this work to be completed in Q3.

Thanks for the response. Glad to hear view counts will soon appear alongside the download counts. 

That said, it appears the number of file views on the analytics page is incorrect given that it shows <10 file views when there's been 86 downloads. A download includes a view given you can't download the pre-print without viewing it.

Hi Etienne, 

There are two places to view or download the preprint file:

On the Preprint detail page: https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/uwmr8/

On the File detail page (in your OSF Project): https://osf.io/c3f5h/

The Analytics tab is only including views of the File detail page (https://osf.io/c3f5h/), but the download count aggregates downloads from both the File detail page and the Preprints page. 

So, I can view and download your preprint from the Preprint detail page (https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/uwmr8/), which will increase the download count by 1 but not increase the view count.

PS Another caveat to keep in mind when viewing Analytics on the project Analytics tab is that Adblocking software may interfere with view count capture. But, in this case, I'd be willing to bet most people are finding your file via PsyArXiv and downloading it there :)
