Hey demand-side folks,

Just had a call with Brendan and Alan at IAB re: efforts the IAB Tech Lab is considering taking on. I proposed a single app with all SSP/network SDKs embedded for the sake of creative testing, and especially MRAID unit testing. Summary below:

We'd like to be able to have a mobile app that has all of our supply side platform partners SDKs installed in it (e.g. latest versions of MoPub, Nexage, AdMarvel, Pubmatic, Smaato, etc.), such that we can select which SDK the app would be referencing and then be able to test our ad creatives in the app environment. Ideally we'd be able to paste the our ad tag directly into the app so that we can see the specific interaction between creative and SDK prior to deciding to run our ads in the specific platform's environment.
Right now SSPs have their own test apps (although not all SSPs do), and it is very time consuming to figure out compatibility, installation, and testing within each of these disparate applications. A "one-stop-shop" would be ideal, so that we can QA our creatives more quickly, and confidently buy more MRAID/rich media inventory on these platforms because we have vetted that our ad units will function properly.

Would anyone else also be interested in seeing this same app developed and kept up-to-date? I'm assuming this isn't only a pain-point for Thinknear in its creative QA efforts.

Thanks,
    Lucas

Yes, testing creatives is a major source of pain. There is http://webtester.mraid.org/ but nothing beats testing on an actual device, there
seem to always be issues running the same creative on Android or iOS. We'd definitely be interested in it.

Hi,

It would be very helpful for us as well.
The proces we use now for testing creatives is very time consuming.

Now we basically
  • put it live
  • with IP targetting
  • keep refreshing an app until you see your own creative
  • go to next app
  • refresh again
  • etc
Which works, but takes a lot of time.

Let me know how we can help, Edwin

Hi Lucas,
We have an app per exchange that we use for testing.
We will be happy to join the effort and are willing to contribute coding hours if that would be open sourced.

Cheers,
Oded

In case anyone was unaware, IAB Tech Lab picked up this up this thread after Thinknear drafted a PRD. Many SSPs are contributing to the dev of the app. Shout out to Shailey Singh for taking the bull by the horns here!

This should be a very useful app for the community. How do we track/participate in the IAB Tech Lab initiatives?
