Hey!

I've CCing the the openrov list too..

Looks like a problem with ino. I've raised an issue on their github page.

I'll be away today and most of tomorrow and can't look into it further.

Hey Dom,

Just a FYI. I have not had a chance to work on debugging but it feels like the arduino tools are not being found by the ino scripts.

Hi Brian:

So I tried doing a manual compile with the Arduino IDE, and it worked just fine.  I'm really trying to avoid pulling the Atmega DIP, however.

I've attached the TTY session from my laptop.  At the beginning you see me poking around and tarring the files, then I try two separate times to update the firmware- first by manually choosing the filename, the second time by having the browser auto-select the filename.  The result seems to be the same each time, no compile.

I'm guessing I'm doing something stupid, but I have no idea what.

Though, admittedly, nothing explains getting the compile error in the Arduino code.  The issue I am referring to before was for the upload itself not working. If you open the log, you should see the actual compile failure. I can help troubleshoot if I can see it.

That is baked in to the image. BTW, the upload process does not work right over serial unless you are using the latest update cockpit code from last week... newer than what is on the latest image from Dom.

This is for my 2.4 ROV, so its an original BB and the 328, so no issues there.

Tried the auto firmware upload thing by not giving it a filename, and it had the same failure.  So I think I'm going to see if I can even compile the stuff with the Arduino IDE that I have on the laptop, though I was hoping to avoid prying the Cape apart to manually program the 328 chip.

BTW, Dominik on the GitHub image page says something about needing a reset.sh script for the Arduino upload (from the BB to the Cape presumably).  Is that handled automatically, or is there something I need to do manually for that?

No problem. Compiler error is just that, it hit a code issue in compiling it.  If you want to use the latest code, we have  work around where you click the upload firmware button without selecting a file and it will compile the code that is sitting on the BBB from the github repository.

You can also try unziping the tar.gz in to directory and point the arduino IDE to that directory, hit compile and make sure it compiles.

The existing compiler via the cockpit software is currently only targeting the 328p.

Hey Brian and Colin:

So I was playing with the new OROV image this morning, and tried to update the Arduino code on my cape.  The update hung, and the log talked about a failure to compile.

Here are the steps I did:

-tarred the OpenROV arduino files
-saved the tar.gz file to my local desktop
-Opened cockpit in Firefox.  Went to settings, chose file, hit upload/apply firmware
- Things got about half-way, then there was the compiler failure.

Did I do something stupid?  Did I mix up old and new procedures somehow.  Where is the Arduino compiler in the OROV software anyway?

Any thoughts you guys have would be appreciated.  If there's a specific question about the compiler, I still have Putty open on the laptop and can get the messages.
