Green and quiet routing outside of Germany

Hello,

I am interested in using the "prefer green areas" and "prefer quiet areas" options in an application I'm developing. I see that the data on openrouteservice is only for Germany though. Is it possible for me to compile data for another country? (e.g. the UK). Can you provide an guidance on this?

Additionally, I would like to extend ORS (and would contribute the code back too) to allow users to specify that they would like to avoid unlit streets. There seems to be nice underlying support in the data from OSM for this (lit=*). Can you provide any pointers on where best to implement this in the code? i.e. would it be best to implement it as an EdgeFilter or something like the GreenWeighting?

Hi Sam,

thank you for messaging us. The prefer quiet/green areas is currently a prototype. The preprocessing is done prior the graphs are computed and will most likely be re-done soon for wider areas. Hence it won't make much sense if you work on a dataset for the UK at the moment.

Regarding the lit areas - yes, you would need to use an extended storage for this, similar to the greenweighting. We'd actually love this functionality for pedestrians. If you have technical questions while implementing, you can also ask us on https://github.com/GIScience/openrouteservice/ .

Thanks for the reply, and apologies for my very slow reply.

Based upon the GreenIndexGraphStorageBuilder code, I think I can see how an unlit streets index could be put together and supported. I will raise a PR once I've implemented this.

However, I am keen to do something on preprocessing UK data quite soon for the quiet/green areas. Can you provide me some pointers for how you precomputed the data in https://github.com/GIScience/openrouteservice/blob/master/docker/data/green_streets_hd.csv please?

sounds grand - could you please contact Zhiyong Wang zhiyong.wang[at]uni-heidelberg.de for this? He was in charge of generating the indices via postgres/postgis.
