Hi everybody,
It is my pleasure to announce formally what many of you have known for a while that Jacob Mtalitinya is taking over the leadership of OpenROSA. Jacob is the CEO of ITIDO, a Tanzanian non-profit that promotes innovative application of technology for social benefit in Tanzania and elsewhere. Jacob has been part of the OpenMRS and OpenROSA community for 5 years, during which time he has founded ITIDO. Jacob knows the community well and has a passion for enabling innovation where it matters most.
Much has changed since we formed OpenROSA in 2007. I don’t think I had ever used the word ‘mHealth’ back then, and now there are several significant mHealth meetings a month in various parts of the world, and several new organizations have arisen to help coordinate. It’s time to redefine the role and mission of OpenROSA. We’ve never had a formal structure but it might well be time to do that now. In the coming months, Jacob will be engaging this community to help establish a new vision for OpenROSA for the coming years.
Jacob will have the full support of a board of advisors that span many projects and continents, and currently includes: Jørn Ivar Klungsøyr (openXdata, University of Bergen), Melissa Loudon(University of Southern California), William Aviles Monterrey(Sustainable Sciences Institute), Ian Lawrence (Nokia), Yaw Anokwa (University of Washington), Jon Jackson (Dimagi), and myself (Dimagi).
Please join me in welcoming Jacob to his new role!
Take care,
neal
