Dear ORWG

Proposed Voting start date: 18h00 EST (15h00 PST, 23h00 GMT) - 18 November 2011
Proposed Voting end date: 12h00 EST (9h00 PST, 17h00 GMT) - 21 November 2011

As mentioned in my previous email, I'd like to start final discussions about the MetaData API so that we can get to a vote.  Please use this thread to discuss the API before the vote.

I've also created a skype group chat so that we can speed up conversations.   Please send out your skypename, or add me (skypeid: antondewinter) to get into the chat!

Thanks!

Sorry for the load of email.   Just figured out how to publicly link to a skype group chat:
skype:?chat&blob=2pSByFPIcAva_JLXE2kR8r2qBavK2_4mlpyViJGZr596luQTeQNe2iZ4CYTF1bkuMMVg5jtheE6CE3zZ_VC7LXv0XY_U556LKY1INu9eDfuOOlAfvv4p7w

(That should take you to the OpenRosa API group chat)

Updates (discussion from the Skype Chat):
Some edits have been discussed in the Skype chat:
  • FillMechanism has been cut out entirely (confusion about what it's use case might be, if any)
  • uiVersion and Version.  There's a call to have it removed/changed
  • Namespacing of the MetaData block.   In theory, the metadata block should fall under a different name space:
"[11:12:16 AM] Drew Roos: the reason for the jr: / orx: split was because jr: was a namespace for xform customizations, and orx: was a namespace to be included in instances"

but in practice, the metadata block usually falls under the same namespace as the rest of the data model.
I'd like to propose that for 1.0 we switch the namespace to be the same as for the rest of the data model (i.e. "jr:") and we can move discussions about that to the 1.1 version of the spec.

A lot more activity is happening in the live chat, so please take the discussion there.  There is a lot faster turn around time than with email :)

Cheers,
Anton

Hi,

I tried using that link, and it open up the chat window, with like 6 members (usual suspect :))

But after a short while, each of the members disappear, and then it says that I have left the chat.

So seems you can’t join a chat that way?

Jornklung is my id.

Best

Jørn

Update:

Talks are still going pretty strong in the Skype chat*, so we'll be pushing the voting period up a little bit.  I will keep everyone posted!

Thanks
Anton

I've updated the metadata API doc.  Given that it seems we reached consensus on some of the more contentious topics for the MetaData API,  I'd like to start voting at 10AM.    The voting will run for 24 hours.      I'll be sending out an email at 10AM EST detailing the procedure and kicking things off.

Thanks again to everyone taking part in the discussions.  I know it's a pain, but it'll be really great for us to have some solid APIs in hand!

Cheers,
Anton
