Hi,

Is there a reason why one needs to restrict the combined scheme:value keypair to be no longer than 80 characters (ie, so that varchar(80) can be used)?

I would assume that a mobile tool connecting to server X would utilize scheme:value keypairs that corresponds to what the server X will be able to handle anyhow?

And if connecting to server Y, it would use what is used by that server.

Is there something I’m missing?

Best

Jørn

Update:

Talks are still going pretty strong in the Skype chat*, so we'll be pushing the voting period up a little bit.  I will keep everyone posted!

Thanks

Anton

Hi,

I tried using that link, and it open up the chat window, with like 6 members (usual suspect :))

But after a short while, each of the members disappear, and then it says that I have left the chat.

So seems you can’t join a chat that way?

Jornklung is my id.

Sorry for the load of email.   Just figured out how to publicly link to a skype group chat:

skype:?chat&blob=2pSByFPIcAva_JLXE2kR8r2qBavK2_4mlpyViJGZr596luQTeQNe2iZ4CYTF1bkuMMVg5jtheE6CE3zZ_VC7LXv0XY_U556LKY1INu9eDfuOOlAfvv4p7w

(That should take you to the OpenRosa API group chat)

As mentioned in my previous email, I'd like to start final discussions about the MetaData API so that we can get to a vote.  Please use this thread to discuss the API before the vote.

I've also created a skype group chat so that we can speed up conversations.   Please send out your skypename, or add me (skypeid: antondewinter) to get into the chat!

Thanks!

Hey Jørn,

After much discussion we came down on the following:  Supported id or xmlns length MUST be at least 249, ideally the server should be able to support arbitrary length.  (From the API doc)

The problem comes in when you author a form on a certain platform (or by hand) and use an ID/xmlns string that is longer than what is supported on server Y.  When you then upload the form to Y, bad things likely will happen (cutting off of the ID, a plain error, etc).

Presumably this won't be an issue when you use tools provided by a server to make a form that then gets uploaded to that same server.  What we're aiming for is interoperability however, so in this case the length needs a tighter definition to ensure that all tools supporting the API produce forms that work with all API supporting servers.

Cheers,
Anton
