All,
Thanx to Paul & Gerhard I have managed, by a manual trawl through the
registry, to 'uninstall' 4.1.
Not pleasant, but I'm back on track.
Again, thanx.

Dave

Subject: Uninstalling OpenROAD 4.1
This might help. I wrote it in response to a problem we had at a site where
the installation was not completed correctly. Please heed the warnings. The
instructions will also destroy an Ingres installation. If in doubt ask your
sysadmin to help.
There are some extra steps required if you have been installing eClient
applications. I received some instructions from CA Support. I've tacked them
to the end of my original mail.
====
With earlier versions of OpenROAD and Ingres, sometimes the uninstall did
not completely work. Also if you upgrade from an earlier release, the old
settings and files are not always removed. You can do a full install then
try uninstall again - this should remove most entries.
Here is what I do to remove ingres entirely if the uninstall doesn't
complete..... (not for the faint hearted)
Most important ... Check that you really DO want to do this.
There may be a valid ingres installation already on the box. It may be black
box ingres. You will lose all databases. You will lose configuration and
user security setup. If this is a shared server or a multi user machine it
will impact other applications running on the box.
Backup the registry - If you dont know how to do this, then you probably
should not be here.
Make sure no users are connected to the box.
Exit all running applications.
Shutdown OpenROAD appserver. ( may not be installed )
Control Panel Services, OpenROAD App server, stop. Set service to Manual so
it wont restart on boot.
Task list. kill any of orspo, w4glrun, w4gldev.
Shutdown ingres and ingres net. Use any or all of the following:
ivm, right click stop.
Control Panel Services, Ingres intelligent database stop. (older versions of
ingres didnt work). Set the service to Manual.
Program file stop/start ingres.
command line Ingstop , ingstop -force, ingstop -kill, (earlier versions
didnt always stop)
Task list. Kill of any remaining for iigcc, iigcn, iidbms, dmfrcp, dmfacp,
iijdbc iigwmss, iigwmssd. The last two are gateway processes for MSSQL.
other variants exist for oracle, etc.
LicenseIT (optional)
Note, other applications on the machine may be using the LicenseIT eg
arcserve. If you are not sure leave this section
Control Panel Services, Event Log Watch. Stop. Set the service to Manual.
Task List. Look for LogWatNT.exe. Kill it.
Remove the c:\ca_lic directory. If the directory will not remove, then
rename it. On reboot you will be able to remove
Remove LogWatNT.exe in the windows directory.
Uninstall OpenROAD Control panel, add remove.
Uninstall Ingres Control panel, add remove.
If you get an error "cannot remove folder" then run explorer and check if
the directory is empty, remove any remaining log or config files.
If you get an error "permission error, cannot delete file" it probably means
something is still running. Use task manager
Reboot. Double check none of the above processes are running.
Remove directories c:\ca_lic, c:\ingresII, c:\ingres, c:\oping (they may be
on other drives)
Fix environment settings in autoexec.bat and control panel, system,
advanced, environment.
Remove references to ingres directories in PATH, LIB, INCLUDES
Remove II_SYSTEM
Remove odbc definitions.
Remove LogWatNT.exe in the windows directory.

To uninstall a downloaded eClient application: (win98)
1. In Explorer, look in C:\WIN98\Advantage OpenROAD\eClient\ and find the
Certificate ID in question
2. In regedit, search the registry for that Certificate ID (without the
curly brackets). Delete each reference to it. I found references under:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\Advantage OpenROAD\eClient\
Controls
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units
but I recommend you do a proper search, rather than just going to those
locations.
3. In Explorer, delete the reference in C:\WIN98\Downloaded Program Files.
4. In Explorer, delete the reference in C:\WIN98\Advantage OpenROAD\eClient\

Hi Dave,
my experiences are limited to Release 4.0, but you could try this:
- run ingstop to kill all iigcn and iigcc and other Ingres related
processes (or kill them with task manager)
- open dos box, run "set" command to see where your II_SYSTEM variable
points to and delete the whole directory

Gerhard

Hi,
I've been having fun (!??!) with OpenROAD on my PC. Unfortunately, I've
arrived at a point whereby I can't Modify, Repair or Remove it.
The setup presents me with the 3 options, but choosing
Modify & Runtime fails saying:
Component: Runtime Files
File Group: Runtime Files
File:
Error: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
Repair appears to work, but doesn't actually do anything; and
Remove also appears to work, but the product stays listed in 'add/remove
programs'.
Of course, it's bound to have been caused by something that I did, but the
fact is I'm stuck.
Anybody know a way out of this mess?
Regards
Dave

One thing I have run into is to make sure that you actually exit IVM if
it is on the taskbar. If not, it can create problems while removing.
Also, check all your start menu's as IVM may not be on your personal
start menu (All User's, Default User,. Administrators)
