Hi,

I've recently been involved with setting up OpenREM (0.10.0) on a server within our PACS network. Firstly, I'm very happy with how it has gone and thanks so much for developing such a useful product!

One issue that we have encountered is that our Orthanc server is regularly crashing following a Q/R. It seems to be occurring during the object processing stage and from some troubleshooting done it seems to be exclusively occurring with CT data.

I've seen one or two other posts of people having similar issues but the issues we are having appear to be different.

The IT guy I've been working with thought it could be an issue with CPU usage as he noticed it was quite high during Q/R but after allocating more CPU to the server the issue still occurs. I've also had a look through the OpenREM and Orthanc logs but I can't seem to identify the issue there.

Any advice as to potential causes or steps we could take to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel

I also have this issue.  Currently on version 0.10.0 but I had it on 0.9.1 also.  I learned to live with it, but it would be great if there’s something that can be done.

Cheers
Jake

I'm not sure what the specific issue would be here, but if it still occurs after we are able to upgrade to version 1.0, then it is certainly something we should try to bottom out.

Kind regards,

Ed

Hi Ed,

As a temporary solution, is there a way to restart the importing of RDSRs from Orthanc to OpenREM? Currently if Orthanc crashes during a Q/R, it stops processing the RDSRs and doesn't pick up where it was when Orthanc is restarted.

Also, will upgrading from 0.10.0 to 1.0 be intended to be relatively straight forward?

Hi Daniel

I don't have a good answer for your first question - I don't know if anyone reading this has any good strategies for this and could help?

Regarding the upgrade - ensuring that the instructions are as comprehensive and clear and correct as possible is one of the activities we are concentrating on now, preparing for the release.

Kind regards

Ed

Perhaps this is related to an issue mentioned here:  can't terminate task /getting server error (500) (google.com)
You could check if there are tasks active tasks that are not yet started. When trying to terminate them, you get an error message
MultipleObjectsReturned at /openrem/tasks/tasks/abort_task/bd82a............
get() returned more than one BackgroundTask -- it returned 3!

Apologies Daniel, I accidentally deleted your message from the group. However, it will be below this in my reply so it remains in the archives!

I am confused though - which release of Orthanc were you using? The version you have reverted to was released in November 2017!

The current Windows installer release is 24.4, which contains Orthanc Server 1.12.3.

Moving to v1.12.3 of Orthanc Server from 1.10.0 (Windows installer 22.2 to 24.4) has fixed retrieve issues for Tim in another thread.

Just in case anyone else has encountered this issue, I wasn't able to identify the root cause, though I have found a temporary solution of downgrading Orthanc to version 17.11.0 which seems to be more stable and the issue seems to have been resolved.

Hi Ed,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I had originally installed using Windows installer 23.11.1 (I'm not sure exactly which version of Orthanc this installs)

Agree that it isn't an ideal solution though I haven't found any significant issues with using the older version so far. I'll try out the newest version and see how it goes
