Hi,

Is there a way to add inverse statements as part of an OpenRefine upload to Wikidata?

For example – I am creating a batch of Wikidata items for the authors of doctoral theses.

For some of the data I have details of the author’s doctoral advisor, which I can add as part of the upload, but I get this warning that I am missing the inverse P185 relationship on the existing doctoral advisor Qid.

Is there a way to add this data as part of this upload – or would it have to be done manually afterwards?

Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice.

Best wishes

Helen

Hi Heather,

You can edit multiple items at once in your schema. In the first attached screenshot I was about to set up a schema to edit a thesis item, by adding author statements. I would need to click the 'add item' link on the bottom right, and then I could add statements that would edit the author item, or the author's advisor's item, etc (see second screenshot). So you can do everything at once if you wish (or you can ignore the warning that you had, and upload the reciprocal statements as a separate upload if you prefer).

I'm replying ahead of Antonoine or Owen, who may have more to add, because I'm also working on thesis data in Wikidata (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/NZThesisProject), and if you'd like to chat off-list I'd love to know what you're doing.

Cheers,
Tamsin

Hi Tamsin,
I'm really sorry for my delayed reply... these messages usually filter themselves into my work inbox, but for some reason this didn't arrive, so I'm only just seeing it now when I returned to the task in hand!
Really interested to hear you are doing a thesis project too and will message off list.
Thanks again
Helen
