Hi, all.

I've discovered that OpenRefine seems to work best when running in Google Chrome. So, I've changed my default browser to Google Chrome. However, I am now in charge of training others to use OpenRefine; I do not want to ask all of them to change their default browser to Chrome. There must be an alternative way to force OpenRefine to open in Chrome when it's started.

How do I make sure that OpenRefine will always start in Chrome without making Chrome the default web browser on every OpenRefine user's desktop?

Thanks.

Jonathon,

As far as I know, OpenRefine open in the default browser. There is no option to force a specific browser.
However, once OpenRefine running you can open a new browser, in your case chrome, and point it to http://127.0.0.1:3333

Martin is right regarding this. You can just follow the instruction to set the chrome as the default browser.

You can try something OS-specific, for example in OS X you can have them run a script (see attached; don't forget to chmod +x run_refine.sh) that would do,

open -a "Google Chrome.app" http://127.0.0.1:3333/

Or in Windows you could make a Cmd icon and in Properties for it set to something like "C:\Program Files\Google Chrome\chrome.exe" (Or whatever its path is).

HTH,
Paul

Thanks everybody. I'm on Windows, as are all of my coworkers, so the shell script won't work -- but thanks!

I like the idea of linking a command to an icon on the desktop. However, I don't know that I could come up with a solution that would be generic for all people here who might use OpenRefine. I think I'll just let users know that they have the option of either changing their default browser to Chrome or starting OpenRefine and then starting Chrome and pointing it to http://127.0.0.1:3333/.

Thanks again.
