i get this error when i load openrefine...

what causes this?

The reconcile service that was hosted by Freebase is no longer operational.
https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/wiki/Reconciliation-Service-API
You can remove that, using the little X next to that service on the Recon dialog box.

where do i get to this dialog box? the only place i see "settings" is as "language settings"

It is not "settings".
Click on a column
Click to Reconcile it
THAT dialog box that comes up.

incidentally, what "did" the reconcile service do? is there a replacement at this point to freebase?
