On the Parse data page for CSV/TSV/separator-based-files , under the "Trim leading whitespace..." toggle option there is a line which says "Escape special Characters with \". But as there is no toggle check box next to it, is this supposed to be a feature of the whitespace trimming or is it a bug that the toggle is missing? I was interested in finding a way to see the BOM character at the head of my CSV files (see bug #1241) and I thought this feature might help, but I can't if tell if it's switched on and, if it is, it doesn't seem to show the BOM (though I suspect this is not one of the special characters that might be shown \ escaped anyway). I'm using OpenRefine version 3.5.0.

Hi both,

Interesting, I never noticed this bit of UI! I was assuming that this is meant to advertise a non-configurable escape character, "\", which can be used to escape quotes inside cell values, but I just tried and it does not seem to do that.

I have just opened an issue for it:
