Hello all. I was just wondering where I can expect my OpenRefine projects to be saved. Also, is the default directory something I can change? I'm using OpenRefine 2.6 with Chrome 45.0.2454.85 m on a Windows 7 32-bit VMware machine. I recently experienced all of my OpenRefine projects disappearing from the OpenRefine workspace; luckily, I'd backed up the important ones to a folder that doesn't get wiped out when the IT department decides to upgrade or run special maintenance procedures on my VM desktop. 'Just hoping to find a way to preserve my projects by default rather than with my foresight. Furthermore, as I'm passing OpenRefine wisdom on to my collegues, I want to be able to tell them how to preserve their projects without getting nasty surprises that will turn them off to the software I'm recommending.

Thanks, but I looked in the following directories and I don't see anything resembling my projects.

  • C:\Documents and Settings\(user id)\Local Settings\Application Data\OpenRefine
  • C:\Users\(user id)\AppData\Roaming\OpenRefine
  • C:\Users\(user id)\OpenRefine
Is there a way to get OpenRefine to report where it's saving data? Alternatively, is there a way to set the directory path manually, and if so, then how?

Oh, I mistakenly said I'm using version 2.6 of OpenRefine. I'm actually using 2.5.

Thanks again.

I'm using Refine 2.6 on Windows 7.  Once opened, there is a link at the very bottom near the "help" and "About" links, "Browse Workspace Directory" (image).  If I click on that it takes me to where my projects are stored.  I don't know if this works across all OR versions / OSes.

Excellent! That's exactly what I needed. 'Sorry I was so blind to it; I guess I just don't tend to look around at the bottom of my screen.

For you Linux, there is an option "-d" to specify the data directory you want to use. But it's not for Windows

Thanks, John. That worked.
