Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, please excuse me if I break any rule here...

I use OpenRefine 3.4.1 with Ubuntu 20.04. I noticed no problem until now, but it's been a few months that I haven't used it.

Yesterday I loaded a small dataset of 539 lines and 7 columns. I reconciled lines with Wikidata items. Then I wanted to add the value of two WD properties. The window to add column from reconciled values appeared, but when I start typing, it shows "Searching..." and nothing happens, no matter how long I wait.

If you have any idea of how to solve this, I would be extremely grateful!

Kind regards,

Bertrand Caron

Hi Bertrand,

Which reconciliation service are you using?
Unfortunately the Wikidata reconciliation service that we ship by
default in OpenRefine is deprecated and unmaintained.
If you are using the default one, try this one instead:
https://wikidata.reconci.link/

Thank you for your answer Antonin.

I tried to change it but failed (I clicked on the cross next to "Wikidata (en)" in the reconciliation sources menu, then tried to add the link you provided, but it returned a time-out message).

Instead, I tried " https://wikidata.reconci.link/en/api" as indicated in the page https://wikidata.reconci.link/. The service was successfully added, but when I tried again adding a column based on reconciled values, this message showed up: "This reconciliation service does not support data extension. Try removing the service and adding it again. If the problem persists, contact the service provider."

The problem seems to be the same as the one described here: https://groups.google.com/g/openrefine/c/vMaKRd0mVQM/m/nQ4L8oEeAgAJ
Is it specific to my machine and setup or should it be considered the same bug?

Kind regards,

Bertrand Caron

Hi Bertrand,

Unfortunately, if your column had already been reconciled before you registered the new service, it will not automatically use the new service for fetching columns from it. You need to reconcile the column again with the new service. If you already spent a lot of time matching items in this column, you can avoid doing that work again by creating a new column containing matched entity ids (for instance by adding a column based on this column using the expression "cell.recon.match.id"), and then reconciling this new column with the new service.

Best,

Antonin
