Hi All

I'm a climate scientist trying to get granular rail data to quantify the impacts of heatwaves (like this one/2022) on the railways. I've signed up to the NRDP but my account currently shows just my details page on logging in, which I think means I've not yet been approved.

1. Is there any way to get TSP data after the week is over? I want to get it for this week of course, and if I had access could use the STOMP client as the wiki says. But is there any way to receive it for 2022, for example? Or June 2025? or this week's if I don't have access in time?

2. Is there any way to get HSP data on a broader level? Or a measure of cancellations rather than just delays? As far as I can tell from the wiki/here, HSP will give quite granular detail on individual routes, but if I want to get all the routes HSP details for a day or week, I have to query each route individually. That seems both inefficient (especially for the request server) and likely to miss key trains/routes. I'm aware the ORR have their dashboards, but they are very broad 4-week periods. And the  RTPPM feed again looks live rather than historic, so if I want RTPPM for a region or the network on a day I have to calculate it by hand?

3. How do I catch Planned cancellations? From what I can see, HSP only covers on-the-day cancellations, but if a cancellation is put in the night before (due to a weather warning, for example) what data will cover that? Is that just the weekly schedule data, or some other source is the best way to find these for the past few years?

Thanks All

Alex

I can probably save you a lot of time here - make an FOI request to Network Rail for bulk data from the periods you're interested in.  I'd imagine you would rather work with data, than try to work out how to to process data in to something you can work with.

I have been pushing for the industry to release bulk sets of historical data for a while now, but so far not had much engagement.  FOI requests for things like this will really help justify that there is a need for it, precisely for people like you who probably don't want the overhead of trying to understand the timetabling and performance sides of the railway.

Best wishes,

Peter
