Subject: [PTIC] New Rail Replacement Location Data
Reply-To: Tim Rivett <tim.r...@rtig.org.uk>
Afternoon all,
A message from the NaPTAN team:
Rail replacement location data is available to download by anyone that wants to use it, at no cost, via the NaPTAN website. We will also publish via the Rail Data Marketplace in August 2026.
The data provides information on passenger pick up and drop off locations used for planned rail replacement services across England, Scotland and Wales. It is primarily intended to support rail replacement vehicle compliance with the Public Service Vehicles (Accessible Information) Regulations 2023 for:
- next stop audio announcements
- visual display systems on board rail replacement vehicles
- rail replacement route planning
The data is currently available in CSV format. We will release JSON and XML formats over the next few months.
Further information on what the data contains and how to use it can be found in our guidance documentation via the ‘additional info’ tab on the NaPTAN website.
This service has been launched by the Department for Transport as a 12-month pilot and will continue to be improved based on user feedback during this period. We have a survey for anyone using the data here. If the pilot goes well, we will transition to a full service after the pilot phase.
