Which URL to use for knowledgebase incident feeds?

Hi all,

Hope you're doing well! 🚅

In the specification handbook for Knowledgebase feeds (RSPS5050 v01-00) it appears there's two URLs. One to get all incidents and one to get incidents by TOC.

• https://internal.nationalrail.co.uk/xml/5.0/incidents-??.xml
  • ?? being a TOC code
• https://internal.nationalrail.co.uk/xml/5.0/incidents.xml

However, on the official https://opendata.nationalrail.co.uk/feeds page, it says to use this URL:

• https://opendata.nationalrail.co.uk/api/staticfeeds/5.0/incidents
  

It looks like there's no way to filter these incidents by TOC via the opendata.nationalrail.co.uk domain. Which domain would be best and allowed in our terms to use? I don't want to use the 'internal' URL if this isn't allowed,.

Hi Nathan

In the past, the 'internal' URL required IP address whitelisting, but that seems not to be the case now.

I would use the Open Data URL, since it's possible the other URL may become impossible to access if whitelisting is ever put back on.  Is the lack of TOC-filtered incidents a specific problem in your case?

Hi Nathan,

My recommendation would be to use the official public feed, and to apply
filtering yourself.

Hi,

It's not a specific problem as I can add filtering myself. :)

One more thing, on the page https://wiki.openraildata.com/index.php?title=KnowledgeBase, I believe there are some more schemas missing?

When running xsd.exe (.xsd to C# converter made by Microsoft) on my machine to generate C# objects, I'm getting numerous errors. I am combining the following schemas into one namespace:

• AddressTypes-v2-0.xsd
  
• bs7666-v2-0.xsd
  
• nre-common-v5-0.xsd
  
• nre-incident-v5-0.xsd
  
• nre-promotion-v4-0.xsd
  
• nre-service-indicator-v4-0.xsd
  
• nre-station-v4-0.xsd
  
• nre-ticket-restriction-v4-0.xsd
  
• nre-ticket-v4-0.xsd
  
• nre-toc-v4-0.xsd
  

When running the schema generation tool, I am unable to generate a class because of the following warnings:

• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:RestrictedStringType' is not declared, or is not a simple type.
• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:RestrictedStringType' is not declared, or is not a simple type.
• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:TelephoneNumberType' is not declared.
• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:TelephoneExtensionType' is not declared.
• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:TelCountryCodeType' is not declared.
• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:EmailAddressType' is not declared.
• Type 'http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/core:EmailAddressType' is not declared.

My best guess is that CommonSimpleTypes-v1-3.xsd is missing from the Knowledgebase page. My IDE is complaining about the lack of the file. Is there any way to find this file on the Wiki?

Hi,

Just to clarify nre-common-v5-0.xsd is the file complaining about missing  CommonSimpleTypes-v1-3.xsd.

It also appears that nre-toc-v4-0.xsd is missing a file called PersonDescriptiveTypes-v1-1.xsd.

Quick follow up.

https://github.com/NullWoof/repo-openrail-issue shows the issue I'm having.

• nre-toc-v4-0.xsd
• nre-station-v4-0.xsd
  
• nre-promotion-v4-0.xsd
  

None of them can be converted to a .NET class without the missing XSD files.

Hi Nathan

You could check https://wiki.openraildata.com/index.php?search=CommonSimpleTypes-v1-3.xsd+&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go for the file - except it isn't on the server.

That XSD and PersonDescriptiveTypes are available elsewhere on the Internet, but should ideally be on that page too.  Would you like to edit the page and upload the files, or is it easier if I do it?
