Hi Open Rail Data Community,

I'm a newbie here. I'm the Lead Product Manager at TfW for our websites and apps.

I'm looking for a solution to a problem of Matching the Unit Number to the Headcode for the train that's actually in service.

We want to be able to advise customers what train facilities are available on board our TfW trains in operation. Not what was planned to be in service, but what train is actually operating.

We also want to generate better ETAs on places on our network with no TDs (Heart of Wales line) by fusing GPS data with timetable data. Toby at Signalbox is working with us with that.

Real-time Trains somehow matches rolling stock and headcode, but I've no idea how.

In 12 months or so we'll have a Fleet Data Lake online which might help with this, and our Stock & Crew Management system should be able to provide the data too but there's no API today so I'm looking for another solution.

Does anyone have any clues how this could be achieved with existing industry data feeds please? They don't necessarily need to be open ones; happy to pay!

Kind regards,

Adam

Hi Adam,

I believe RTT gets unit allocations separately from each individual TOC. So presumably the data is available somewhere internally at TfW!

Best wishes,
Gaelan

Adam,

I assume you're currently a Genius TOC - most are - in which case, speak to your supplier account manager. You might also want to look at the interface to/from WebGemini - which is owned by GAL.

Pass me your email address and we can discuss further.

Regards
Peter

Hi Adam,

Neither actual position nor unit allocations are published as open data by
yourselves. Since you've asked this on an open data list, I'd be remiss if I
didn't ask you to consider trying to get these published as open data.

Signalbox might be leaders in train levitation, but new feeds would be very
much appreciated by the rest of us too!
