Good day to all,

I want to appologize in advance as my question will be rather broad.

Over last 2 weeks or so I have been trying to wrap my head around the process of getting access to the Train Movements data - but I am hitting a wall every time.
What I am trying to do: I am trying to get actual train movements data, for freight trains only, for all of 2024, station to station. (and corresponding GIS reference data for stations - but I am a bit more confident that I would be able to eventually find that)

I am looking at Rail Data Marketplace - and specifically on the NWR Train Movements product. It feels like the answer to my problem (historical train movements - and not day to day real-time data). I can be completely mistaken and chasing the wrong thing.
But after I've subscribed to it - i have no idea how to actually access the data.

Could someone give me advice on how to actually get the Train Movement data from the Marketplace?

Again, sorry for such a broad question - but I am trully at my wits end at this point.

Best regards,
Alex

The train movements feed, available via publicdatafeeds.networkrail.co.uk, is a real-time feed of messages that you will need to capture and process either in real-time, or in bulk.  The problem for you is that there isn't a published official set of historical messages.

There are a few people who have historical archives of this data that they might be able to make available, but you'll need to do the processing and alignment with the timetables yourself.  But if this is a one-off request, you might be able to request it from Network Rail under FOI.

We record freight train movements and keep a historical database of them too.
If you are able to explain exactly what it is that you are after, and what for, we may be able to assist

Good day John,

I've sent you a direct message earlier - but I can't (within the Google Groups UI) find, whether it actually was sent/delivered or not.
So I am sending another this one to the entire group - just in case.

The short of it: I will be happy to describe, what I am looking for (I did in my previous message - which might have disappeared into the ether).
If my first message didn't come - could you send me some means of contacting you outside of Google Groups?

Best regards,
Alex
