Hi all,

Working on a research project for university, and need geographic coordinates for all of the stations in England. Was hoping to use the knowledgebase JSON feed from RDM but can't access it from anywhere other than the little test portal on the rdm itself. Anyone else had any issues with this, or could offer suggestions of how I can obtain this data? I only need a one-time extract so no long term use.

Thanks,
Sam

Probably better off getting it from OpenStreetMap

I have a GitHub repo with a CSV and JSON file with this data in it: https://github.com/davwheat/uk-railway-stations/

It's hand-curated and updated, which means that there is admittedly a delay between a station opening and me remembering to add it (...or someone else opening a PR and shaming me for missing it!).

Make sure to check the license — it originated from a Trainline open data set, so you have to attribute them too.

There are a number of other sources out there which come from upstream rail systems, too. Their licenses might be more relaxed.

There's a fun little error with the location data provided by National Rail's data feed, try the "Open in Google Maps" button for this station https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/burnham-on-crouch/

I would just use the station attributes data from the ORR data portal.
it gives Eastings and Northings rather than lat/long but it's some fun maths to do the conversion :D

Thanks all for your advice, it's been super helpful! I think I'll go with the ORR data as it's easier to justify academically, even if it's missing the stations from the previous year.
