Hi all - newbie here.

I'm looking to find out the best way to get the UID for a future service, given I know the CRS code of the source and destination as well as the date and time.  Does anyone have any thoughts?  I have looked into the Live Departure Board API but I'm not sure it provides what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Hi David

The UID is assigned when the schedule is set up during the train planning process.  The best way to find it out is to use the schedule files available on the NR Open Data platform.  They contain everything that's planned, and you can select the one you need by mapping the CRS code to a TIPLOC, and searching for a train at a location with one of the TIPLOCs.

For context, what're you trying to do here?  There may be a more straightforward method of getting there other than working out the UID.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the information. The UID is required as a parameter in an API that I am using so there might not be another way around it.

I will have a look into accessing the schedule data feed on NR Open Data. How far in advance are UIDs assigned before the service?

Hi David

Would you be able to tell us which API specifically you're interacting with?

Evelyn

Hi David

The UIDs are assigned when the train is planned, so with the CIF or JSON format schedule data, you can find out the UID of a service anything up to months in advance, or anything as short as Wednesday if it goes in the schedules on a Monday.
