Setting up an OpenQwaw server on a hosting account?

Hello! I am embarking on setting up an OpenQwaq server!

first:

I have used OpenQwaq before when it was TelePlace.

I am a fairly experienced Linux person and programmer, but not expert level by any means. I learn as I go.

I have found the installation instructions but reading them prompts me to ask here first before tinkering.

Questions:

(1) What hosting company and OS can I set the server up on? I did read Ubuntu is out of the question, that is my usual linux distro

(2) What are the best ways(read: most idiot-proof and simple to get running) to obtain the server and set it up, with the least hassle.

(3) The goal is to have our own server for educational faculty and staff to make their own accounts and own spaces for their students.
