Dear OpenQuake users,
We are pleased to announce the Third GEM-EGU Summer School on Geohazards and Risk Assessment 2026, from the 7th to the 11th of September.
The summer school is a training opportunity for researchers and professionals interested in seismic hazard and risk assessment, with a strong focus on the use of open tools, open data, and the OpenQuake-engine.
This year’s programme will offer a comprehensive, multi-hazard perspective on earthquake impact assessment, including ground shaking, liquefaction, landslides, and tsunamis. Participants will learn how to perform earthquake scenario analyses using the OpenQuake-engine, with applications to seismic events such as the 2023 Türkiye earthquake and the 2025 Myanmar earthquake.
The programme will also include sessions on emerging approaches, including the use of AI for exposure and vulnerability modelling, and augmented/virtual reality for risk communication.
Participants can expect to:
The summer school is organized by GEM Foundation, the University of Aveiro, and the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
Places are limited, and interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
