QGIS quit immediately

Dear all,

Am running oq-desktop-32b-lu1404-1.9.1-2 on oracle VM Virtual box and when i uploaded web based map from google map and as i start working on it like zooming in and out the qgis quit immediately and it gives this error (see below). Before that when the map is loading this is what it was showing; openlayerplugin: printing and rotating of javasscripts API based layers is currently not supported.

I really need my qgis to work because i want to delineate and characterize the seismic source zone model for my research thesis and therefore am asking for your help to solve this problem.

Dear Sophie,

The problem you are reporting seems to be related more to QGIS than OpenQuake, and googling the problem doesn't return anything definitive. In my experience the Google Map layers in the openlayers plugin can sometimes be a little unstable -  especially in a 32b operating system like the one you are using on the VM. You might find that the OpenStreetMap layers are a bit more stable. I often use OCM Landscape (for general geography/topography) or MapQuest Open Aerial (for satellite view) - though I see that MapQuest Open Aerial has just been discontinued, so try Bing Open Aerial instead.

Also, try updating first the openlayers plugin, and if that doesn't work then maybe even updating QGIS itself. If your native operating system is 64b then you may find it more stable to install QGIS on your native OS and use it from there rather than from the virtual machines.
