Version 3.25 is the culmination of 3 months of work involving over 320
pull requests. It is propedeutic to the 2026 release of the Global Hazard
and Risk Models; as such, it focuses on improving performance and reducing
memory usage, as well as supporting the latest science.
Users valuing stability may want to stay with the LTS release instead
(currently at version 3.23.4).

The complete set of changes is listed in the changelog:

https://github.com/gem/oq-engine/blob/engine-3.25/debian/changelog

A summary of the new features and optimizations is given here:

https://docs.openquake.org/oq-engine/3.25/manual/release-notes/whats-new-3.25.html

You can install on all supported platforms (Linux, Windows, macOS) by
using the universal installer:

https://github.com/gem/oq-engine/blob/engine-3.22/doc/installing/universal.md

Windows user may prefer the native installer

https://downloads.openquake.org/pkgs/windows/oq-engine/OpenQuake_Engine_3.25.0-1-no-toolkit.exe

The OpenQuake engine manual is available here:

https://docs.openquake.org/oq-engine/3.25/manual/getting-started/index.html

Before installing the new release you should uninstall the previous
release, if you have one. As always, before upgrading, you should export any
output of interests, since exporting an output computed with an older
version of the engine may raise an error. Moreover, it is generally
not possible to run a risk calculation starting from a hazard computed
with an older version.

That's all, please let us know if you have any trouble with the upgrade.

Version 3.25.1 of the IRMT QGIS plugin (https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/svir/version/3.25.1/) has been released.
It is aligned with the OpenQuake engine version 3.25.
Please note that the recommended Long Term Support Release is still 3.23.2 (https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/svir/version/3.23.2/),
compatible with the OpenQuake engine version 3.23.
Both versions of the plugin can be downloaded using the QGIS Plugin Manager (Plugins -> Manage and install plugins).
Version 3.25.1 is set as experimental, so it can be installed only if the option "Show also experimental plugins" is checked in the QGIS Plugin Manager Settings.

Yesterday we released version 3.25.1 which contains the following bug fixes:

- fixed a bug with prefiltering around the poles for sources crossing the International Date Line
- making sure that save_rates uses the processpool distribution to avoid potential issues in zmq clusters
- listed h3 as a dependency in setup.py, so that it is possible to use the engine as a dependency
- listed AvgSA as primary IMT so that it is possible to run risk calculations using AvgSA

Most people are not affected by any of these changes and have no reason to upgrade.
